Visual Essay on Land-based Learning and a Video I Created Demonstrating the Practice of Witnessing
I have come far in my journey in Indigenous education, however I wish to commit to the continued learning and appreciation of Indigenous ways of knowing. I hope to continually adapt my classroom to address the evolving needs of reconciliation. I am beginning to use the programs of study to provide opportunities for all students to develop a knowledge and understanding of, and respect for, the histories, cultures, languages, contributions, perspectives, experiences and contemporary contexts of First Nations, Métis and Inuit. I began this process by teaching a unit in Social Studies on the Age of Exploration and Imperialism.

I have considered Indigenous pedagogies such as land based learning and witnessing practices in my own education, and look forward to implementing them in my own classroom. I look forward to continuing to support the learning experiences of all students by using resources that accurately reflect and demonstrate the strength and diversity of First Nations, Métis and Inuit.
